Returning to unpack intriguing stories and subject matters, the festival will be running from Friday, May 30 through to Sunday, June 1.

Authors, journalists and experts of exciting niche fields will deliver 10 sessions presenting a wide range of topics to residents of Maryborough and it’s surrounds.

Words in Winter coordinator Janice Simpson anticipates a full house at this year’s festival, with both locals and out-of-towners encouraged to attend for the whole weekend.

“People who attend our festival will be excited, stimulated and entertained by the line-up of speakers, thinkers and analysts,” she said.

With a program full of humour and insight, attendees can expect an impressive line up of special guests including renowned scientist, podcaster and broadcaster Anne Jones, broadcaster and author Romona Koval, award wining crime fiction writers, and a Victorian coroner and specialist in forensic enquiries, from the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine, explaining what truly happens in a forensic examination.

Ms Simpson said these events cater to everyone and are beyond just readers and writers.

“We focus on bringing great conversations to town of interest to a wide-ranging audience, the emphasis is on those important conversations,” Ms Simpson said.

Budding writers are also encouraged to get involved, with the festival commencing this year with a Students Day.

Local students can attend a professional writer workshop and share their own pieces, with winners announced for a best story competition.

“Here you can grasp the chance to attend a professional writing workshop that in the city or regional cities, would be at least double the price,” Ms Simpson said.

She is encouraging locals to save the date leading up to this year’s festival, with more events to be announced in the coming months.

“The festival will be full of ideas and imagination. We hope to continue to bring great ideas and conversations to Maryborough and surrounds,” Ms Simpson said.

Words in Winter Central Goldfields festival is a locally-run, entertaining, thought-provoking and inclusive and a growing signature on the region’s annual calendar.
