Talbot boots 171 points past Campbells Creek
The Talbot Hawks let out all of their frustration from their round one defeat to Harcourt with a convincing 146-point demolition of Campbells Creek.
Tasmanian import Ethan Brock made his much-anticipated debut for the Hawks, becoming one of four players to boot three goals or more at Campbells Creek Recreation Reserve.
Jude McGuire also made his season introduction after coming third in the league’s best and fairest in 2025, boosting a midfield headlined by an outstanding performance from back-to-back Riddell premiership player Tommy Alkemade.
An early goal from the Magpies gave the hosts a boost of confidence, but Talbot responded with seven goals of their own to enter quarter time up by 39 points.
Jarrod Stephens was routinely causing problems for the Campbells Creek defence throughout the first half, with Alkemade, Victor Micallef and Dylan Tarczon routinely hitting him on the lead to set up several scoring opportunities.
Not content with their 77-point half time advantage, the Hawks continued their second quarter dominance and proceeded to boot 13 consecutive majors across the second and third quarters.
Thanks to a Stephens half-dozen, Brock, Trent Barras and Lachlan Hind kicking three goals each and pairs from Zac Cicchini and Tarczon, the Hawks kicked a stunning 25 goals despite inaccuracy in the fourth quarter to get in the winners column for 2026.
Alkemade led Talbot’s best players, with Jayson Atkins, Micallef, Josh McDermott, Tarczon and Stephens joining him on that list.
Similar to their weekend opponents, Campbells Creek’s recruits also starred on debut in their new guernsey, with Jack Larkin named the team’s best player while Jesse Presser and Daniel Watson combined to kick the Magpies three goals.
James Martinovic, Lachlan Hyland, James Haber, Dylan and Judd Stevens were named alongside Larkin as the best players.
