Seniors fest returns next week
The community will mark this year’s Victorian Seniors Festival with the chance for local seniors to celebrate positive ageing.
Celebrating its 43rd year state-wide, this year’s theme, Connect, Create, Celebrate, invites seniors to come together and discover new interests.
Maryborough Regional Library will host an expo with stalls, giveaways, resources, displays, health checks and more next week.
The expo will host stalls from Maryborough Volunteer Resource Group, Maryborough Field Naturalists, Maryborough District Health Service and many more local organisations.
Former AFL player and coach Kevin Sheedy, along with stand up comedian Mick Meredith, will also headline the 2025 senior expo ‘Living it up in the Central Goldfields’.”
Maryborough Library services coordinator Maree Stephenson said the festival is a chance for seniors to seek fun and fulfilling opportunities throughout the Central Goldfields.
“We have a lot of community groups, for anyone who was interested in joining community groups, we will have a lot of information. They’ve got the opportunity to realise there are a lot of things going on in this town that they may not know about,” she said.
“It can be hard to cold call someone. If you can meet them face to face, it is more likely they will join in, you’ve got the opportunity to ask about it.”
Central Goldfields Shire mayor Grace La Vella said it was wonderful to see a local opportunity for seniors to come together and celebrate Victorian Seniors Festival.
“Last year’s event was such a hit with Robert “Dipper” DiPierdomenico. This year’s line-up looks equally as fantastic with a high calibre guest speaker line up including Kevin Sheedy and Mick Meredith,” she said.
“Thank you to our library team and the community groups involved in pulling together the event and we look forward to seeing our local seniors come along, be involved and make the most of this year’s celebration.”
Member for Ripon Martha Haylett said older Victorians have contributed so much to the community, and is proud to support them.
“There’s so much on offer throughout this year’s festival, including across the shire,” she said.
The 2025 senior expo “Living it up in the Central Goldfields” will take place on Wednesday, October 29 from 2 to 6 pm.
