Police are seeking further information from the community on an “extremely dangerous” incident that occurred on the Pyrenees Highway between Maryborough and Newstead last Friday, October 24, between 1 to 1.35 pm.

Local police said a white Ford Territory towing a trailer pursued a blue Holden Captiva SUV travelling east between Maryborough and Newstead.

Near Joyces Creek, a white SUV became involved and collided with the trailer being towed by the Ford Territory who had undertaken a U-turn and began travelling west.

Police said a further collision occurred in Flagstaff involving the same white Ford Territory, now without a trailer, and a white Ford Falcon sedan as both vehicles travelled west towards Maryborough.

Sergeant Paul Martin said the incident put community members at risk.

“The incident was reckless and extremely dangerous, involved two collisions, speeds of up to 150km/h and number of occasions where vehicles were overtaking other motorists at high speeds and crossing double lines,” he said.

“The behaviour exposed other motorists to significant risk and was totally unacceptable.”

Units from the Maryborough Police Station and Central Goldfields Highway Patrol responded.

“The incident is being actively investigated, and police urge anybody with dash cam footage or information to come forwards,” he said.

Information can be provided to Maryborough Police or via Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.
