Netball Preview: Newstead v Navarre
Heading into the season following different trajectories in 2024, Newstead will look to keep their upward momentum going against a Navarre team keen to bounce back into finals.
With the hopes of regaining their 2023 finals place, Navarre started their 2024 campaign in some brilliant form.
They racked up wins against Campbells Creek, Dunolly and Trentham before only losing by eight goals to the powerhouse of Natte Bealiba.
Things started to unravel after the Grasshoppers bye in round five, registering one more win for the rest of the season against Campbells Creek to end the season 12 points adrift from finals.
With the Grasshoppers welcoming a handful of new players this season, Navarre is keen to close the gap and potentially qualify for finals this season.
The team that occupied that last finals spot Navarre was chasing for was Newstead who were one of the big improvers in 2024.
The Kangaroos expanded their win total from three to seven to take Navarre’s 2023 placing of eighth and qualify for finals.
Despite Newstead being defeated in the elimination final by Lexton, the Kangaroos are motivated to make their stay in the finals a regular occurrence.
The Kangaroos and the Grasshoppers only collided once in the 2024 season with Newstead coming out on top with a 16-goal victory.
