Near record-breaking heat
Maryborough almost reached its highest recorded temperature this week as a heatwave grips the state.

Maryborough came close to its highest recorded temperature as a heat wave swept the state this week.
Ahead of January 27, forecasts threatened record breaking temperatures for the local area.
The North Central region, which includes the Central Goldfields Shire, had an extreme fire danger rating alongside much of the state’s west.
One step down from the highest catastrophic rating, which came into effect earlier this month, an extreme fire danger rating means fires will spread quickly and be extremely dangerous.
V/Line services also ran on an extreme heat timetable given areas of the state were forecast to reach close to 50 degrees.
It was a forecast far higher than V/Line’s 36 degree limit before extreme heat speed restrictions are enforced in order to reduce faults and improve passenger safety.
Maryborough’s top temperature, according to the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM), reached 44.4 degrees, falling just short of the area’s sweltering record.
The highest heat recorded by the BoM for Maryborough is 44.8 degrees on January 25, 2019.
While temperatures have cooled slightly the BoM forecasts temperatures will reach 40 degrees today, dipping into the mid to high 20s starting Sunday into Monday, before climbing back into the 30 degree range next week.
