Local triathletes participate in long course event
The Maryborough and Dis-trict Triathlon Club conducted its third event of its 2025/26 Club Championship Season from the Maryborough Sports and Leisure Centre on Sunday, October 12, in cool and slightly windy conditions for triathlon.

Event distances were 400 m swim, 20 km ride, and 4 km run for the long course and a 200 m swim, 4 km ride, and 1.5 km run for the short course.
In the short course, it was a three-way battle between Ella Govan, Sophie Mark and Martin Mark, with Govan exiting the pool first into the opening transition, with Martin and Sophie not far behind.
Govan produced a quick transition and headed the field into the cycle leg. Martin Mark was able to move to first place during the cycle leg, but Govan and Sophie Mark were still within striking distance.
Another quick transition for Govan re-established herself in first place with the run leg to finish the event. Sophie Mark proved her triathlon ability as well, surging past Martin halfway through the run leg.
Govan was able to maintain her strong running form throughout the run leg to take first place in a time of 25:04 (first Open Female), with Sophie Mark surging to the finish line (26:46) in the second fastest time of the day (2nd Open Female), and Martin Mark third in 27:19 (1st Open Male).
In the Open Male long course, it was local triathlete Josh Britten and Bendigo-based triathlete Tyler Beale who tackled the windy conditions, especially on the 20 km cycle leg.
Britten excelled in all triathlon disciplines, especially the cycle leg, and produced a blistering time of 68:52 to take first place in the Open Male category.
Beale, in his first longer course event, also proved he has exciting promise in the sport of triathlon, completing the course in 79:28 to cross the finish line in second overall in the Open Male category.
With the warmer weather approaching, which is conducive to the sport of triathlon, the club invites all experienced and budding triathletes to come along and participate in its second long course Triathlon from the Maryborough Sports and Leisure Centre on Sunday, November 9.
Course distances will be 400 m swim, 20 km ride, and 4 km run for the long course, and 200 m swim, 8 km ride, and 2 km run for the short course.
All participants are welcome, either as individuals or teams, and now is the ideal time to start training as we move into the summer sports season.
