Carisbrook entered Marty Busch Recreation Reserve hoping for a positive start to their season against a side the Lady Redbacks were very competitive against in 2024.

The Lady Redbacks applied pressure on their opponents right from the opening siren, forcing Lake Wendouree to miss multiple goal-kicking opportunities as they scored 2.5 in the first quarter.

Lake Wendouree started to pull away in the second quarter, kicking five consecutive goals to extend their lead to 49 points going into the main break.

Carisbrook came out of the changerooms emboldened to challenge Lake Wendouree in the second half, conceding only two goals in the third quarter to limit the margin to 65 points.

Lake Wendouree managed to kick another three goals in the final quarter against the Lady Redbacks’ tireless defence, winning 12.12.84 to no score.

Danika Anderson was named the Lady Redbacks best player, with Sarah Lynch, Emme Johnson, Jazmin Wintle-Burton, Danae Every and Maddison Smith also playing well in the loss.

The Lady Redbacks will now set their attention to an elimination final rematch against Bacchus Marsh at Ballarat’s MARS Stadium.

Bacchus Marsh was able to advance at Carisbrook’s expense in last season’s finals by 71 points, however, Carisbrook managed to defeat the Cobras by 13 points in their sole victory last season.
