Joyce marks 100th birthday
Last Friday marked a particularly special birthday for Joyce Branton, who was overjoyed when loved ones stunned her with a surprise celebration.
The Havilah resident was moved to tears last Friday morning when staff, residents and loved ones surprised her with a bright pink display to mark her 100th birthday.
“It’s just wonderful, it’s just too much, I’m lucky,” she said.
Mavis “Joyce” Branton was born on April 10, 1926 and grew up on a farm in Natte Yallock. She has lived locally for much of her life.
Ms Branton received many gifts for the occasion, and opened them alongside other residents and staff.
She also recieved letters from the King, the Prime Minister and various local MPs congratulating her on the milestone.
A Havilah resident of four years, Ms Branton said she enjoys living there, and still loves to maintain her plants.
“I get well looked after by all these lovely people and carers,” she said.
“I like to get out on the patio with all of the pot plants.”
A lover of sport for much of her life, particularly lawn bowls, Ms Branton said it was part of her secret to how she’s made it to the milestone.
“You’ve got to keep active,” she said.
“I’ve had a good life and a good family.”
