Harcourt’s homecoming ends with dominant win
In an emotional homecoming to the Lions Den, Harcourt produced a highlight reel performance, dominating Dunolly by 115 points.
While their defence allowed just three goals during the contest, Harcourt’s offensive consistency was even more impressive, with Jed Rodda and Braydon Vaz helping the Lions kick five goals in every quarter.
Throughout the first quarter, it looked like the Eagles would produce a competitive fight, with ruckman Ryan Burt giving first use to onballers like Jay McDonald and Joel Fisher.
However, only converting one of their five scoring shots into goals proved to be costly for the visitors, as the Lions pounced to a 23-point lead at quarter time after booting 5.3 in the term.
From there, Harcourt dominated the match, with Mark Noonan, Josh Taig and Jordan Gartside rebounding plenty of Dunolly attacks, allowing the likes of Vaz and Cameron Anderson to latch onto any open space and provide pinpoint passing to their forwards.
Rodda was the main beneficiary of those entries, as the Lions kicked 37 unanswered points in the second quarter to boast a 10-goal lead at half time.
While majors from Jay McDonald and Darcy Conder gave the travelling supporters something to cheer about, there was no way back for the Eagles, as Harcourt accelerated to the top of the MCDFNL ladder with a triple-digit trashing.
Fresh off kicking four goals in Harcourt’s round one victory over Talbot, Jack Threlfall produced another outstanding performance, named best on ground for the hosts.
With five and four goals respectively, Rodda and Vaz were also among the best players alongside Noonan, Taig, Cameron Anderson and Gartside.
Luke Burns, Benjamin Leech, Mitchell McKnight, Mitch Rees, Luke and Nathan Anderson were among the goalkickers for the Lions, with Burns and Leech ending up with a pair of majors each.
Ryan Burt headlined Dunolly’s best players in a tough defeat, joined by Mathew Bradley, McDonald, Fisher, Dylan Burt and Mitchell Goodwin.
