1. Town Walk

Begin your stay with a stroll through the splendid cluster of heritage buildings, including the Court House, Town Hall, Post Office and Old Fire Station, which display the fine workmanship of a bygone era. 2. A Grand Station

The historic railway station is home to a café and restaurant, the Central Goldfields Visitor Centre and ticketing and services for trains. An impressive example of the grand architecture of the period.

3. Galleries

If you're an art lover, be sure to visit the Central Goldfields Regional Art Gallery for a range of contemporary exhibitions housed in the old fire station. At the Possum Gully Fine Arts Gallery you will see national and international artworks, as well as original garden sculptures set in the gallery's beautiful grounds.

4. Bristol Hill Tower

A memorial to the pioneers and gold miners of the area, visit this bluestone tower right on the edge of town. Your climb up the steep tower steps will be rewarded with sweeping views and a greater appreciation of the vast box ironbark forests that surround the town.

5. Stories in the trees

Head south 2 kms out of Maryborough to the rock water wells along Wells Track. See what are regarded as some of Victoria's best examples of Aboriginal rock water wells and look out for the scarred trunks of 'canoe trees' in the area.

6. Paddy’s Ranges State Park

Continue your journey off the beaten track in the nearby box-ironbark forests, which are rich with 30 types of orchids and more than 140 native bird species, and offer superb displays of wattle and wildflowers in the springtime.

7. Nolan Street Vintage, Antiques and Collectables

This side street close to the CBD is full of antique, vintage and second-hand stores that are a delight to rummage through. Meander this collection of shops, conveniently nestled together in one location.

8. A food fossicker’s delight!

Enjoy local cuisine lovingly created with fresh local produce. Try a glass or two of great local wine with delicious cuisine, country style meals and great service are offered at restaurants, cafés, provedores and historic pubs.

9. Cycling and Walking Trails

There is no better way to explore the Central Goldfields region than on foot or by bike. There is an abundance of tracks throughout the shire that allow all ages and fitness levels to get up close and personal with the beauty of the area.
