Former students awarded

Two outstanding young leaders from Maryborough Education Centre (MEC) have been recognised at Youthrive Victoria’s annual Scholars Luncheon.

The two MEC students have been awarded Youthrive Victoria’s university scholarships, providing $30,000 in financial support over three years, along with mentoring and leadership development opportunities through the Wrap-Around Care program.

Khoa Do was recognised for his youth advocacy, serving as a Youth Mayor on his local youth council and as a Rural Youth Ambassador.

In recognition of his dedication to youth advocacy and community involvement, he was named the 2024 Youth Citizen of the Year in the Central Goldfields.

This year, he will begin a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and a Bachelor of Science at Monash University in 2025.

Safhira Rowe was recognised for her exceptional leadership serving on the Central Goldfields Shire Youth Council in 2022, before stepping up as Youth Mayor in 2023.

She also participated in the Rural Youth Ambassadors program, run by the Country Education Partnership.

In 2025, she will commence a double degree in Bachelor of Engineering (Computer and Network) Honours and Bachelor of Computer Science at RMIT.

The scholarships awarded to these students have been made possible through the generous support of local residents who are passionate about fostering success among young people.

Youthrive Victoria is an education charity with the purpose of strengthening rural communities by supporting young people to go after their career and education aspirations.

It’s mission is to deliver programs and scholarships to young rural Victorians that empower them to develop their personal, professional and leadership capabilities.

Youthrive Victoria runs programs for young people from rural and regional Victoria and is always seeking contributions and support to provide scholarships to more Victorian’s living in rural and regional areas.

In line with Youthrive Victoria’s mission to support young rural leaders, a total of 40 new scholarships have been awarded for 2025.
