Crash a reminder for drivers
A local woman has been taken to hospital after her car rolled over into a ditch near Golden Point yesterday morning.
Local police were first called to the scene at 9.26 am following reports of a single-vehicle collision along Majorca Road, approximately seven kilometres out of Maryborough.
Upon arrival, police, ambulance, Maryborough SES and Maryborough Fire Brigade assisted with a 2019 Holden Equinox lying on its side on the edge of Craigie-Park Road.
The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the crash.
“It appears that a 57-year old lady from Red Lion was travelling west on Majorca Road, for whatever reason has failed to navigate a sweeping right-hand bend and fell off the road to the left on its side in a ditch,” Central Goldfields Highway Patrol Sergeant Paul Martin said.
“At this stage, the lady’s injuries are nothing serious which is fortunate — the lady has been transported by Ambulance Victoria to Ballarat Base Hospital for assessment.
“The cause of the collision at this stage hasn’t been determined, police will certainly consider if speed or distraction were factors.
“We certainly appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage to make contact with Central Goldfields Highway Patrol or Crime Stoppers.”
Sgt Martin urged residents to be extra safe on local roads to ensure everyone can celebrate a healthy holiday season.
“It’s a timely reminder for motorists to pay attention to their driving, it does highlight someone who’s very familiar with the road and travelled on it many times can still wind up in this situation,” he said.
“This time of the year we want to make sure that everyone is able to enjoy the Christmas and New Year period and it does require people to be extra vigilant on the road.
“Do your bit for road safety and control what you can personally control — collisions in local sur-roundings can and do often occur.”
Anyone who witnessed the collision, has dashcam footage or information is urged to contact Maryborough Police at 5460-3300
or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
