Community hub feasibility study begins
Local community groups and volunteers are invited to share their ideas on how a community hub could help them.
Community groups and their volunteers are invited to have their ideas heard on how a community hub could best support local organisations.
Maryborough Volunteer Resource Group (MVRG) are encouraging local input as part of their ongoing feasibility study into the concept.
Their first steps include a survey for local volunteers, now available on their website, and face-to-face interviews with not-for-profit groups to better understand what the community needs.
These responses will shape what the project will look like and how it can support not-for-profit com-munity groups.
Previously, MVRG have said the project could act as a resource hub for community initiatives helping with volunteer recruitment and management, red tape, grant writing, succession planning, while acting as a meeting space.
Feasibility study coordinator Phillip Walker, in conjunction with MVRG, has prepared an online survey which is now open to all community members to fill out.
“It is really crucial that as many people as possible complete the survey as all insights are valued and helps us determine direction,” he said.
Mr Walker said he looks forward to hearing what the community expects of the hub.
“This is a really exciting project. A gap has been identified and now we are looking into understanding it in detail. I really get a lot out of meeting people in the shire and putting together a picture of what they want,” he said.
MVRG spokesperson Mark Norfolk said the need for a community hub has been repeatedly expressed at local forums and workshops in recent years.
“It’s really important that volunteers and organisations start thinking deeply about this to ensure high quality input that will hopefully lead to greater outcomes. So be ready as the MVRG and Phillip will be contacting you very soon to participate in this very important first step,” he said.
“We all understand how our not-for-profit community group sector plays such a critical role in filling the gaps in our communities. This survey is a first stage initiative in further enabling the good work they all do. We need to hear your voice loud and clear, so please do find the time to participate and contribute.”
