Community grants now open
Central Goldfields Shire Council’s community grants program is now open for applications.
Community groups are encouraged to apply for their share of $30,000 of available funding by 4 pm on July 29.
Grants of $500 to $3000 are available for community-based organisations to fund recreational, cultural, social, and economic initiatives that benefit the shire and its community.
Examples include activities, programs, small events, or equipment and infrastructure upgrades.
Last year, 17 applications were funded to a total value of $36,496.
However, this round the total funding available has been reduced after almost being cut outright by council.
Central Goldfields Shire Council said they were “committed to funding projects that align with its strategic objectives and policy outcomes” and encouraged applicants to do their research before applying.
Specifically, they encouraged applicants to familiarise themselves with the Community Vision 2031, the Council Plan 2025–2029, and Your Community 2030 – 10 Year Community Plans.
All potential applicants must attend an information session at the Community Hub to discuss their project with a council officer before applying. The session times are:
June 19 from 10 to 11.30 am

June 23 from 1.30 to 3 pm
Registrations can be made by emailing terence.jaensch@cgoldshire.
vic.gov.au specifying a preferred session and number of attendees.
Mayor Ben Green said the community grants program was an opportunity for local groups to bring their ideas to life.
“Our community groups are incredibly important, particularly as many navigate challenging economic conditions. These grants help them continue delivering the projects and events that lift and connect our community,” he said.
“If your idea supports inclusion, encourages active and healthy living, responds to climate impacts or contributes to our local economy, we’d love to see your community grant application.”
Last year there were only two unsuccessful applications which were both rejected due to their structure.
