Brigade set to open doors
Local residents are encouraged to get involved when the Bowenvale Fire Brigade hosts its open day and Get Fire Ready event this weekend.
Taking place this Sunday, October 26 from 10 am until 1 pm, the event presents an opportunity for residents to learn more about their local fire brigade while also going over fire prevention tips and advice ahead of summer.
Bowenvale Fire Brigade Captain Allan Monk said the event is particularly beneficial for new residents.
“There are a lot of new residents in the area now, some of them have moved from more built up areas and the landscape here is not what they’re typically used to,” he said.
“This event is really useful for those people because we can talk through what fire activity is generally like in the area and the steps they can take to reduce that fire risk on their properties.”
Beyond that, Captain Monk said it’s also an opportunity for community members to learn more about the brigade and their activities locally.
“This is an opportunity for the community to come and see what we’re all about,” he said.
“We’ve hosted this type of event in past years and numbers are consistently going up which is really good, it means people are interested.”
The day is set to offer activities for the whole family, with a sausage sizzle, information session, tours of the fire station and firefighting appliances, giveaways, target shooting with firefighting hoses and much more.
Brigade secretary Belinda Monk said it’s also an opportunity for locals to join the brigade if they’re interested.
“Recruitment is something we’re always pushing so if there are people out there who’d like to join or learn more about what’s involved, we’re always happy to talk about that,” she said.
The Bowenvale Fire Brigade’s open day will take place from 10 am until 1 pm this Sunday, October 26 at 558 Timor Road, Bowenvale.
