Beaufort aim to end Laane’s undefeated start
After dominating the first two rounds of the new MDCA A grade season, Laanecoorie Dunolly will attempt to make it three wins on the trot when they host a quickly emerging Beaufort.
While their current streak doesn’t stack up to the 60-game unbeaten run that spanned from November 2021 to March of this year, Laane looked as dangerous as ever on Saturday against the team that snapped that historic stretch in Carisbrook.
Superstar opener Tom Hannett produced another trademark performance last weekend, batting from start to finish to score an unbeaten 111 after hitting seven boundaries.
Including the tail end of his Ken Gibbs medal-winning season in 2024/25, Hannett has now scored three centuries in his last seven innings for the club, joining an exclusive group of seven batters who have scored at least three hundreds for Laane in MDCA’s A grade.
Alex Cook has also had an outstanding start to the season with the ball, leading the competition with seven wickets with a barely believable average of just under four.
Laane’s bowling attack, consisting of Cook, Josh Fitzpatrick, Sam Bartlett and Joe Lovel, has been exceptional at preventing easy runs for their opponents so far this season, making life for their batters much easier.
Currently in the midst of a four-game home stand, Laane are well accustomed to the current conditions at Bryants Oval and are keen to make the most of it against a Beaufort team fresh off a 27-run victory against Clunes.
Following a top-order collapse that saw the Bulls lose their first three wickets for two runs after starting 0/68, captain Brandon Walsh and Theo Trevelyan-Clark got Beaufort back on track versus the Magpies, with Walsh making a deserved half-century.
After their disappointing performance with the ball in patches against Colts Phelans, young guns Benjamin and Thomas Grant brought some much-needed fire-power and discipline to their bowling attack, finishing with figures of 3/9 and 3/22 respectively.
The Bulls will be determined to replicate a similar bowling display this weekend, especially consider-ing Laane scored 4/326 in the last match between these two teams, including an unbeaten 138 from Hannett.
