Anzac badges now for sale
With less than two weeks until the district marks Anzac Day, Maryborough RSL sub-branch members have commenced badge sales throughout town to support local veterans and their families.
Sales for Anzac Day badges began on Monday morning, with the Maryborough RSL sub-branch running two street stalls, one at newsXpress in High Street, the other outside Maryborough Woolworths.
In the lead up to the first Anzac Day for the sub-branch’s new committee, the group’s new president Wayne Sproull said a QR code has also been created for those who don’t use cash, with funds going directly to the local sub-branch.
“We are looking forward to it, we have touched based with a few other community organisations, Lorraine being part of the Lions Club has managed to get us some volunteers there, the Maryborough Volunteer Resource Group has provided us with volunteers to help with sales as well,” he said.
We raised over $8300 last year from the Anzac Day appeal, so we’d like to top that this year, that would be great. We have issued an independent QR code for those who don’t have cash. It takes you to the donation page and they can use that.
“We are hugely thankful for the community because the money raised goes towards the welfare of veterans and their families.”
This year marks 125 years of the Australian Army, with some limited edition pins for sale commemorating the milestone.
Maryborough RSL sub-branch’s Roy “Shady” Lane said even the smallest generosity from locals is always appreciated.
“Every little bit helps, we’re well distributed around the town, so for those who can’t make it to Coles or Woolies, there are plenty of outlets around town helping us out,” he said.
“We are very thankful to the local shop owners and community for supporting us.”
Badges, pens, wrist bands, key rings, and other small memorabilia will be on sale throughout Mary-borough from 9 am to 3 pm Monday to Friday, and 9 am to 12 pm Saturday until Anzac Day eve.
